As a mom of two, I have a different appreciation for maternity and newborn sessions. I have the eye of a mom who misses her pregnancy belly (even though I swore I would never miss being pregnant), and the heart of a woman who has an up and down relationship with her body. Taking maternity pictures towards the end of your pregnancy feels like such a daunting task. I get it. I get it so much that I didn’t even do maternity photos for my second daughter – and I STILL regret it.
Take my advice… get the maternity pictures done!
Kelsey reached out about staying in The Sea Ranch area of the Sonoma Coast for her and her husbands 17 year anniversary (turned baby moon) looking to have her maternity portraits done. We briefly discussed shooting inside the airbnb she and her husband, Bo, were staying in AND doing an outdoor portion because the view was THAT GOOD!
Sea Ranch is about 2 hours away from my home in Petaluma but this was a no-brainer. Like I said, as a mom of two young girls, doing maternity and newborn photos has become a huge passion of mine outside of weddings. I love witnessing the excitement that bringing a baby into the world does to a couple.
I got to their airbnb on the Sonoma Coast right around sunset and immediately jumped into the photos. We got lucky with the weather. It was raining inland but gorgeous blue skies with scattered dark clouds on the Sonoma coast. It created such a gorgeous hue in the sky. The unobstructed view from their Airbnb was a showstopper, too! Imagine living here?!
Can we talk about how GORGEOUS Kelsey looks in her Calvin Klein set?! Seriously… this was the ultimate statement piece to me! Doing an indoor maternity session gives you a lot of freedom to go casual. Her hair was in a low bun, she was barefoot, and the simplicity of the black Calvin Klein set with the robe was EVERYTHING. Don’t overthink your clothing choices for your indoor maternity session.
In an effort to get both the indoor maternity photos done AND some outdoor photos in the same session, we moved quickly outside before it got too dark. Check these out! What a nice variety for the baby book!
We saved the best for last… the final few minutes before the sun hit the water. The way the light reflected into the room with the fire burning… chefs kiss!!!
We snuck in a few more photos around the fire and then called it a night!
